Quote from Mr. Bollinger:
Quotes from the Koran are easily taken out of context just to serve the purpose of bashing Islam. Same can be done with the bible. For every Islamic terrorist, there are hundreds of peaceful muslims. Sad to see such stereotyping and ignorance, that's why there will never be peace in the world. You're just as hateful as they are by making such comments. Start with yourself. Learn to see the humanity in everyone.
You are right that quotes can be taken out of context, but it is also true that (1) Muslims seem to be in the middle of a disproportionate amount of violence, (2) that violence is directed at non-Muslims , (3) many Muslim clerics support and urge such violence and virtually none preach against it, and (4) it is the Muslim world that keeps characterizing this as being a religious struggle, not us. I'm not an authority on the Koran, but it seems their actions indicate that his quotes are not out of context, at least not for sizable numbers of Muslims.
I don't see the moral equivalency argument at all. There is a big difference between criticizing Islam and terrorist bombings.
