Bought a fancy new Dell and it sucks

Have you been in the BIOS? This is bizarre. Win10 or 11?

I have not checked the bios but there was a bios update i had to install.

Win 11.

The computer is running well now (but i said that at 8am too and at 10am i almost took a hammer to it).

A lot of win-machines gimp their RAM clock to keep temps down.

You said you're attached to your modem via a cable vs wifi.

Windows 11 prioritizes wifi and it looks there anytime you open a new app that needs an internet connection. It slows everything down.

Try this:
Open Network & Internet settings.
Click Change adapter settings
On your ethernet right click and open properties
highlight IPV4 and click properties
click advanced
uncheck "Automatic metric"
Put a "1" in the interface metric box.

This tells windows to set your ethernet connection as the top priority. that way it won't spin its wheels checking and double checking for a wifi connection.

True, or simply disable wifi

Computer doesn't come with a wifi card so thats a non issue. So far my thinking is that it was the power setting. I'm going to check the bios this evening to see if they've underclocked the ram.
