Don't confound the brutality of the past w/the infinitely less harmful gatherings these clowns have (Charlottesville not withstanding). You start dictating which groups people should belong to and you'll have resistance and the opposite reaction of what you wish.

People need to spend time studying false moral equivalency. While I agree of course about free speech I am a trader. I make decisions based on incomplete information all the time. One can film-flam otherwise good people into war too easily by preying on their doubt.

I'm perfectly ok with vociferously condemning these people. I'm not OK with invading the space they reserved to peacefully assemble looking for a fight or surrounding them with little chance of escape if things turned sour. There is moral equivalence to unprovoked violence, don't try to equate the motive as being the same as the violence.

The left exercised their free speech just like the guys in Charlottesville, who did it carrying semi automatic weapons and chanting Nazi slogans. It doesn't matter if that speech silences someone else's free speech through intimidation.

You should go read the history of 1930s Germany sometime. The Nazis rose to power rather than being ignored - because the society preferred the Nazis to the violent left (Communists, etc.) in the German streets. Coupled of course with the prevailing desperate economic conditions. If the left had not been so violent, it is likely that the Nazi party would have been a minor failed side-note in history. And please note I am not saying the Nazis were not violent, however the left basically set the stage for their success.

Well there are a lot of reasons why the nazis came to power. Of course the primary being a charismatic leader who spewed racism and encouraged his followers to commit racist acts. When trump's followers commit acts against muslims and other minorities that resemble Kristalnaacht, what is he doing?
If only more of the general population stood up at the time. But they were beaten down by the economic hardships imposed by world war 1. Fortunately we dont have that issue today.
