Van Tharp also has a shorter book that might be good for a first read, Super Trader.
As far as books on trading strategies are concerned, that really depends on what you want to trade and how you want to trade it.
If you want to trade technically, I'm a big fan of Adam Grimes's free online trading course (adamhgrimes.com), and his book, The Art and Science of Technical Analysis. Blows away most of what I've read, and is very well put together.
That course is enough alone to put together a trading strategy, but you'll also find other authors of help in getting ideas.
I like Bob Volman's books, very well written and should be a fairly easy read for anyone who's first language isn't English.
Be prepared to spend a lot of time reading and then researching. Never try any trading strategy without testing it exhaustively (e.g. at least 100-200 samples) and making it your own. Give yourself plenty of time, and keep in mind this forum has certain users who's job is to make you feel like you can't succeed. Pay no attention to them.
Also, NEVER pay for a training course or somebody else's trading system. It's a waste of money. Good luck!
