Bono's BS

Yeah, i was a huge foreigner fan-name rings a bell now, had a lot of their albums, fav band for a while, agent provocateur was a great album.

Had, i think, 5-7? U2 albums at one point, and i still think live at red rocks was, all things being equal, their best-because it rocked.

But then, i also have 4 pearl jam albums, a stack of stones, a smattering of zep and acka dacka relics(on tape) , 4 rage against the machine albums, and i cant seem to find my collection of REM, deep purple, floyd and other mood music, nor my rare sabbath collection, dunno where they went.

Oh well. Cant have everything.

Sorry Reg, all those Stone songs you mentioned are several notches below the worst of what Bono and the boys come out with on a regular basis.....no, wait, that whole "Pop" thing was rather hideous, I'll admit. "Miss You" is better than that whole album, I'll give you that!

Actually, i dont see acka dacka (ac/dc)in vegas anytime soon either, but when Z talks about "iconic" bands-its likely the case, most people dont even mention bands like ac/dc, there actually so remarkable its accepted their up their in the pantheon, without even mentioning them, or there work.

You gotta admit, acka dacka friggin rock, always have-and they DIDNT have to reinvent their musical style to sell out stadiums, because they ARE rock.

AC/DC doesn't get the respect they deserve. The adulation that's showered on the Stones should have gone their way.

Pop and Zooropa are the two most hideous U2 albums, me thinks. :)

I should mention, i havent heard any U2 since zoo station, basically.
But, i strongly recommend, live at red rocks, for those who dont "get" U2 . These guys do rock, when they want to.

Mullens percussion is dynamic and very raw, drives the whole concert, well worth a listen.
You want "raw "rock sounds, this was a fine moment for them-maybe there finest. Unlike the original "satisfaction", they dont sing directly about sex, so maybe there's an argument about rock credibility there, but its still pretty damn good-its as raw as it gets.

That is a seminal U2 moment. The Electric Co. and 40 still give me goose bumps when I listen to them. My favorite live track of theirs is "Bad" from 85's Wide Awake in America.

Edit - I read that it was so cold and damp that most of the audience had left, thus, towards the end, most of the footage is of the band and not the audience....Those that stayed got a helluva show.

Thats a little harsh, dude.....the stones were great. Except, they were formed a fair while before ac/dc, a LONG time before, it could nearly be argued they had the market to themselves for a while.

But heres the thing-their totally different bands, completely.

You cant compare the flouncy, pretentious, puffy shirt vietnam era drugged out musical journey of the stones, to the blue singlet, aussie pub rock apolitical nastiness, of a band whose lead singer drowned in their own vomit coz he was a total pisshead.

Mind you, im a huge fan of inxs , they had some great albums and work too.......but they never had the "rock" credibility, its a cultural thing maybe.
Especially, after listen like theives was aired on miami vice.

How could an aussie rock band, live up to ac/dc? They cant.
I saw micheal hutchence, break his ankle, doing a stage stunt, and he KEPT going, hardly missed a beat.
That's rock. Its full on. But where's the credit ?

As for relevance, Have you ever heard the tune "Sympathy for the Devil", or listen to the album "Exile on Mainstreet"?

to each his own, of course, but as for staying power, the Stones had top concert receipts again. ... "Karaoke"? Are f'ing mad? There is virtually no U2 song I would select to play, (although I wouldn't pay to see the Stones today either). Too overproduced, too sappy for my tastes. I did say "ROCK" after-all.

Electric co, party girl, sunday, gloria, im sure i read about the crowd and the weather......a top band does the job, regardless, you know?

Legitimate performers, you know-who was that band, when they didnt perform their "golden oldies', and tried to introduce their "new stuff" they were boo'd off-stage?

Z brought it up, its just an interesting thing-people WANT to hear the classics, and i can understand that to a degree.

Always hated "40" though, i guess thats the limit of my religio chant tolerance level.

FWIW, eddie vedder is, imo, the most inspired artist to have existed in my lifetime, & possibly before.

The man is a legitimate guru, imo.

Tradernick, you may have noticed, but DAMN thats cold.
