LONDON (MarketWatch) -- The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee on Thursday unexpectedly boosted its asset-purchase program by 50 billion pounds ($84 billion) to a total of 175 billion pounds. Economists had expected the committee to either pause the program or boost it by a more modest 25 billion pounds. As expected, the committee left the bank's key lending rate unchanged at a record low of 0.5%
