These millions didn't have to go to the banks. Critics say big financial institutions could easily afford to waive transaction fees for welfare withdrawal.

They also blame welfare administrators for not doing a better job spreading the word about no-fee ATMs that are available to beneficiaries.

So you guys don't want to help the people . . .
you want to run on an empty suit /do nothing platform but you want to win and you want to be the government.

well , good luck with that. :( .

right, it is much harder to tell people that living off of others is an undeserved blessing and that they will have to work and provide for themselves, than it is to give them what they want at the expense of others.

the 'article' you posted is about an ingrate who is living off others and bitching that she has to pay the same fees everyone else does. she should just be thankful and shut up.

btw the fed gov was not designed to be a charity, and has no authority to be one. i realize this is about a state program. just pointing this out to you.

Canada's banks cash social assistance cheques for free. And apparently a few have installed dedicated kiosks.

None of the Canadian banks let non-customers use ATM machines without a fee. Customers must have a minimum balance at the bank for free ATM transactions. There is a proposal in government to cap ATM fees in Canada at 50 cents.

The dedicated kiosks for social assistance are provided and paid for by the Canadian government out of tax dollars - these are not provided by the banks (even though some are found at bank locations).

lol really spike? you expect taxpayers to have sympathy for her because she has to pay fees to a bank and it eats into her 'benefits'. oh i get it, the BANKS are at fault, bank accts should be free for welfare recipients. huffpoo has gotta be the saddest rag out. what do you suggest should be done?

Big banks are fucking thieves and Wells Fargo is one too. Every few months they start adding fees and I have to make a trip to talk to the banker and have them taken off. The lady is working piggy what the fuck do you want her to do starve to death. Fucking heartless republicans can kiss my ass.

so don't bank there! or at least don't bitch about it.. you think they're thieves but continue to bank there, what a tool. I know big banks suck and don't use them, i use a small local bank and pay 0 fees unless i have to use a foreign atm.

and spare me the guilt trip. she's working and receiving welfare, not paying fed taxes, possibly living in subsidized housing and receiving who knows what else. That IS help, and she should be grateful for it. instead she wants to bitch that she has to pay ATM FEES cause she could use that money for something else. well no shit, we all could. how unrealistic are you, you can't treat adults like children that expect to be taken care of into perpetuity. she needs to experience real life. and it's not the banks problem that she's broke, they don't work for free. besides, like max pointed out, she could also just go to the bank and withdraw cash for no fee. and who says she's starving, maybe she's a lazy fat ass who won't walk to the bank because an atm is closer.

if you care so much why don't you help her out?
