Anyone with any experience on this sort of problem? Or can anyone offer any guidance on this problem?

One possibility.

Check CPU temperature. I have seen a Windows box repeatedly blue screen due to an overheating CPU. An improperly installed heat sink / faulty fan can cause this.

Run any hardware diagnostics you can get you hands on, starting with memtest86.

Were you able to restart your system normally?

Have you made any recent changes to your computer (updated drivers, windows automatic updates, new hardware/software)?

If you're not able to restart it normally, on XP there's an option to press F8 when the OS is first booting. If you did install something new, you can choose Safe Mode and uninstall the offending item. If you can't put your finger on anything that's changed, another selection is to start using the last good configuration (or something like that).

Use a good firewall.
If hackers try to hijack your PC you often get a blue screen.

Seriously, what you have done is the same as saying "my car stopped running all of sudden - do you know what's wrong?".

You need to provide a lot more information if you want anyone here to have a reasonable chance of helping you otherwise you're going to get random replies like use a good firewall.

I'm no way a techie so I can get foxed by a computer.

The answer to your question is, yes. On one of my computers the hard drive started clonking and clanking continuously and Dell agreed to replace the hard drive under a 3 year guarantee I took when I purchased this one. The man came and put in the new hard drive and walked away with the piece of sh*t computer not working. I did the Windows update then it went 'blue screen'
