Bloomberg warns US jobless riots

Quote from morganist:

Then pension fund default.
morgan, don't forget US default

They say no country that's ever been in debt as deep as we are have ever gotten out of it without declaring bankruptcy

The civilized way to do it is just keep printing

the one that cracks me up is just make the rich pay their fair share. Well Warren Buffet and Bill Gates have about 150 billion, will that help? Maybe we can get that guy down in Brazil to throw in 50 billion just as a good will donation.

Whats 14 trillion minus 200 billion? My calculator only goes up to 100m

No they can't pay it. And they won't.

Some news writers are sort of economic idiots for laughing at Buffett' idea for increasing tax on the ultra rich. Obviously they do not understand magnification effects.

Perhaps final winner in the capitalism war will be the communist or the poor party predicted by Joan Robinson in 1956.

The problem is that you are talking about an economy years ago. The "recession" is deeper than any we have seen since the 30's. This is NOT the same situation your four friends faced when they started their business.

Lets look at TODAY. The residential construction industry has all but collapsed. How many out of work painters are a fighting for the same jobs now? In addition there are MILLIONS of "undocumented" workers willing to do this work dirt cheap which further cuts into business.

You have to take into consideration CURRENT economic reality rather than "years ago I knew a guy......."

so why the f-ck has the market and AAPL stock etc. been going straight up all week! lol

How does the market equate to jobs? Oh, AAPL is producing tons of jobs........in China.

If you recall, the thread is about the fear of rioting due to the lack of employment.

Actually Apple has hundreds of job openings in California.

There is always high demand for competant people, sadly those are not the majority. it's easy to hire someone, just not someone who's worth their salary.

Quote from nutmeg:

I have to laugh at that one. I needed some excavating done this spring, I call this guy, been around for years, he stops by on a Thurs. Looks around and says I'll be back next week to shoot elevatiions and give you a price. 2 weeks go by, I called someone else, he's going to stop by in a few days, the day he shows up, the first guy arrives, they just miss each other.

Now the first guy gives me a price, but now I want to see what the second guy bids. Another 2 weeks go by no price, no phone calls, nothing so I call a third guy on a Sunday morning, he shoots right over, checks it out and says I'll give you price in a few days, On that exact same sunday the second guy calls with his price. Now I'm into 6 weeks to get two people just to give me a price.

I said screw it, I'll wait for the third guy, mind you, I wanted this done and was really not interested in getting "quotes". i had a ball park idea what this was going to cost, I just wanted it done.

The third guy, I like him, so I call him after a few days for a price, his quote is the best, I pay him in full (I trust him, he's done other work for me, I'm lucky to get him). In June he started and almost finished, it's now Sept and it is not done. This is like a 2 1/2 day job.

It is getting more and more like Europe where a 20 minutes job can literally take 3-4 months to complete as one guy come, takes a look around for 2 minutes, says he will be back, report to someone else and so on and so forth. This fucking disease is now creeping into the American psyche.

People with money and big ego's and grand plans and don't want to wait 10 years for building permits head over to the UAE and do stuff in a big way.

Can't build anything in the US, everything is petty bs. 10 years working on ground zero. They've been trying to build a second track in upstate ny for rail. 15 miles of track and they cannot get this done and it has been 15 years. The cross country RR was built in I think 6 years back in the day.

Quote from oldtime:

I have a big problem with this whole liberal democrat elitist idea that people need jobs.

They just can't conceive of a country where most people are in business for themselves.

Most laid off factory workers have personal skills which far surpass those they were required to use at the factory.

It's that whole Das Kapital crap all over again. They only understand a world that has been built by capitalism. They don't understand how to build a world.

They don't even know where their payckecks come from, and they spend all day complaing that the people who pay them aren't doing it right.

They are elitists. They went to college and think anybody who didn't must be stupid and need their help.

Now what are they going to do when college grads can't get jobs? Blame it on the educational system?

For someone who loves the government, they sure do blame it a lot for not doing enough.

i have a problem with making stuff up as you go :p

"I have a big problem with this whole liberal democrat elitist idea that people need jobs."

there is so much wrong in this statement i don't know where to begin
