Bloomberg vs. Ninjatrader

Quote from Lornz:

Ninjatrader can't even do options or spreads.

I only used it briefly several years ago, thus my experience might not be valid anymore, but it was full of bugs and froze/crashed frequently.
I've been expirencing the same thing... no bad crashes, just one terrible bug in the strategy analyzer.

a couple of thoughts...

re nt not doing options or spreads, i agree. it should only be used for futures.

re the performance of the actual program, they continue to make improvements (nt 7 the latest release) is a lot better in terms of cpu resource utilization.

re bbg, most users don't care how much it costs b/c they don't pay for it - the firm does. it's easy to be addicted to bbg if there are no downsides (like being locked into a 2 yr contract paying approx $2k a month). i've heard of only a few independent traders NEEDING bbg for what they do. most independent traders focus on one market (e.g. futures, options, stocks) and are able to access it w/o bloomberg.

disclaimer: i DON'T work for bbg or nt. if you're still hesitant re nt for any reason either try it for free or worst case lease it for a month. if you want to trade from a chart there are a handful of quality front ends out there, nt being one of them (button trader, zeroline, bracket trader are three used primarily w/ ib). you just have to read the reviews and see which front end provides the features you need.

My thoughts also on NT7... IMO it went from undesirable to usable, not usable to great. They obviously are getting allot of business, and I would be surprised if they are not profitable by now... these last few bugs seem to be impossible for them to get rid of.

No serious trader would use NT!

I know U speak for yourself when t comes to Ninja but I use it(multi broker version with CQG data) for managing my client accts( 300-500 RTs daily, used TT before that). Been using it ever since they came out with NT7 version, have never had a problem with it. Since I don't trade options or spreads, just futures(mainly ES, 6E, NG, CL ) I don't worry about not having access to other markets.

.....my second pick would be CQG platform

I retract my last sentence, it was not my intention to be condescending. My point was more that I doubt you'll find NT on a trading floor.

By not allowing option or spread trading, they exclude most professional traders. But, like I stated, it might be more stable now. If so, it might be enough for directional futures traders. At least for non-scalping, technical traders.

It's hard to compare to it to CQG IC, but one must also consider the cost, I guess. $50(?) vs $2000/month. There's no need in paying for something one doesn't need, but NT far exceeded the cost of the IC by being so unstable.
