That has not been my experience with IB over the past decade or so of using them. Overall, IB has been a good broker. Their API gives me access to almost everything I can do with TWS desktop and I find their margining rules to be very generous. The only thing I would like them to do is match Tradier's per contract option cost (which is $0 with $10/month subscription). I calculated my average all-in cost per option contract over the past 2 months and it's $0.81 / contract. Even $0.35 / contract would be a big improvement. Maybe you're more likely to get limit orders filled with IB than Tradier. Not sure. Anyhow, that's really it. That's the only thing I would ask them to improve.
Their commission especially on options is no longer competitive if you take into account their various "miscellaneous cost" and extra charges for taking on extra risks calculated according to their proprietary risk-analysis model. So yes their margin might be generous but when you really want to take advantage of their "generous" margin, you will find IB will impose charges on you for taking on extra risks. Their desktop platform is extremely slow during volatile and busy trading periods like NFP time this past Friday and its servers are constantly down.
