Bloomberg is a commie

Quote from Maverick74:

What f*cking hierarchy are you referring to regarding libertarians? Do you even read what you post? Many of Stalin's polices were in place. And the democratic party supports a "majority" of his social and labor policies.
I refer to the Right Wing, to which you adhere, despite your protestations. As for the "democratic party" supporting Stalin's social and labor policies, are you really that daft? Really?!

Quote from Free Thinker:

this is the difference between emotional thinkers and analytical thinkers. emotional thinkers are only able to think in black and white terms.
analytical thinkers are able to connect the dots. we know that soft drinks are a major source of the obesidy epidemic in this country. we also know the the obesity epidemic will cost government trillions if it is not slowed or reversed. there is nothing wrong with government using scientific data to devise a plan to attemt to change behavior and save trillions in the long run.
bloomberg is one of the few republicans i could support.

I drank so much soda as a kid it came out of my f'n ears and I was fit as a fiddle. Get these kids off their ass and back on the playground, and the obesity epidemic will be gone in a blink. Of course, little Johhny may get a cut or a bruise along the way and we can't have that, now can we?

Quote from Ricter:

We got more problems that that, Brass. Entire generations are being raised indoors in front of monitors now.
True. It is a multi-pronged problem. One that requires addressing and a bit more cooperation from flag-waving chest-thumpers.

you cant overcome a bad diet with exersize. the amount of exersize needed to absorbe the excess calories from most diets in america is not doable for most people.

you can't single out a single 'bad' product like that. You can literally make up 1000's of rules in the name of good health.

Supermarkets can only have 1 aisle dedicated to 'junk' food.

Hot dog vendors can only sell 1 hot dog per person at a time

No toys in happy meals

1 fast food chain per 3 city blocks

2 doughnuts max per customer.

LOL, this is so stupid.

Quote from Brass:

Bottom line: accommodating people who are stuck in the feedback loop with all-around access to the very thing that is addicting and killing them is secondary to the 24/7 waving of the flag. It's like making alcohol readily accessible to alcoholics, wherever they may be, so that the draw is always there, unrelenting. It's like knowing there is a gambling problem among the population, but installing gambling arcades on every corner. Freedom. Ra ra.

Guess what? Alcohol is readily accessible to alcoholics. I know, I am one. I decide not to drink it. I don't need or want the f'n government telling me whether I can or cannot drink.
When the pain of being a fat ass get's bad enough, you do what you must to lose the weight, or you suffer the consequences, just like alcoholism. Personal responsibility.

Not as readily as the "food" items that are the topic of this discussion.

What, exactly, are you defending anyway, with your outrage? The right to lack common sense? Who would be hurt by the common sense initiative?

yes but if you refuse to use personal responsibility the rest of us(taxpayers) have to pick up the pieces. i would rather head off that eventuality ahead of time.

I'm afraid I still hold my American point of view on this. The difference in attitude was really brought home to me when I moved to Canada, which I soon began calling a nation of "safety sissies" (don't get me wrong, Canada is awesome). Recently I've eased up a bit and begun to think Canada's position probably has something to do with national healthcare. That is, if society is going to pay for your head injuries, society can make a helmet law, etc.

I'm defending my right, our right, to tell this bullshit government we have some real problems need solving. This is non-sense.
