BLM: Raleigh Now Ground Zero

Black Lives Matter movement will now be in high gear in Raleigh, North Carolina (where I live - well one town over) after an officer shoots a black drug felon with a lengthy record.

Police chief: Raleigh officer shot, killed drug suspect during chase

Raleigh police officer killed a drug suspect fleeing arrest Monday afternoon, Police Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown said.

An officer, whose name hasn't been released, was chasing a man on foot who was wanted on a felony drug charge and ended up shooting him, Deck-Brown said. The shooting occurred shortly after noon near the intersection of Bragg and East streets.

A gun was found "in close proximity to" the dead man, the chief said.

Police haven't released the name of the shooting victim, but Rolanda Byrd told WRAL News that it was her 24-year-old son, Akiel Denkins, who had an outstanding warrant.

"They killed my son for no reason," a distraught Byrd said. "Everybody out here said he was running, didn't have a gun, (was) trying to jump a fence, and that officer shot my son seven times. For what? For nothing."

Denkins had been convicted three times on drug offenses, according to the state Department of Public Safety. There were pending charges against him from last fall of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and probation violations.

A woman who asked not to be identified said the foot chase started when a man took off as he was approached by a police officer. The man ignored the officer's demands to stop, the woman said, and chase went over one fence and turned deadly after a second fence.

"When they got to the tall fence, the boy jumped the tall fence, but the police couldn't," the woman said. "When the police went to jump over the tall fence, he fell. When he fell, he just started shooting his gun."

Ok. You are interesting.

Of the four temperaments defined by David Keirsey I judge that your personality type fits into the group called "The Rationals".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rational_temperament

I know you are subject to ongoing assessment of data coming into your mind meaning you are able to alter your viewpoint as new information is processed. You have on open mind. I've seen it here several times.

Given that, I guarantee I can change your outlook on BLM in 20 minutes.

It happened to me after a search of Youtube on the phrase "cops shoot unarmed black man". If you watch a few of them you may have the reaction I've had. I get it. Cops straight up *murder* black men right on camera. There is no ambiguity, its just right there in front of your eyes.

Fair enough. I try to look at the facts and make a reasonable assessment. I recognize that there is a long history of oppression of blacks in the U.S. - however I also recognize that the black community has a culture of victimization with an associated lack of personal responsibility.

I will be the first one to step up and say that a cop should be prosecuted if they violate the law and shoot an person without appropriate justification. However we have seen case after case where the cops are totally justified in shooting criminals. Of course, this is followed by large scale protests by BLM activists who fail to see facts and reason.

Does this mean there is not a problem with police shooting minorities in some instances? No. Is the Black Lives Matter helping in protesting incidents that are totally justified? No.

This doesn't even get into the recent trend where cops are targeted and shot by BLM supporters. But, of course, the current White House administration does not comment on these incidents.

What is the best first step to resolve this situation? Require cops to wear body cameras -- with appropriate standards for holding clip and releasing put into place so citizens (e.g. informants) are not jeopardized. I will note that in departments that have employed body cameras, the cameras show that cops are correct in over 97% of incidents in which individuals complain about their treatment by the police.

We're going to be exposed to non-stop "get whitey" stuff up to the elections then it will all go back to biz as usual. If they did "get whitey" stuff every year we would get so tired of it we'd push back so hard they would never recover. A few months every four years: Whitey can handle it. It was about this time of year 2012 when Trayvon the thug Martin tried to kill George Zimmerman and bought the farm. We had to listen to that s%^t for months, they reunited Martin's divorced mom and dad for the show, made sure they collected some insurance money to pay them, got law enforcement people fired for leaking some facts about Martin etc... We might as well be in the Soviet Union listening to Radio Moscow.

I probably have less sympathy for BLM crap and racial victimization nonsense like that spewed by Chris Rock the other night than anyone here.

However, I am troubled by a guy getting shot while running from the police, black or white. Having some minor drug charge is not a capital offense. I am also less than convinced by a gun found close by. Nothing against this officer, but there is a long history of police using drop guns to cover their ass.

No doubt the OP is correct that BLM will attempt to exploit the situation, but the facts are troubling.
