Driver was white. From the verbal descriptions in the news you would not know the race of the attackers versus the race of the victims.

is there evidence the victim was attacked because he was white? If not, then race is t relevant.

In the latter example, the woman assumed the black person stole her phone because he was black. Then race is relevant.
