"ooh, there's so much cash on the sidelines! It has to find its way into the markets eventually!"

Goodbye, worn-out, tiresome, useless catchphrase not just of 2008, but the last 3 decades.

2009 is no year of chance. Those lucky enough to be liquid will not trust Wall Street with their money, nor will they trust governmental agencies to provide any protection, stimulus or transparency.

2009: The year those with cash to deploy took their ball home and sat the game out, completely, forcing more selling and triggering more redemptions...and ugly thing, especially as unemployment skyrockets and the economy goes to shit.
This post is loaded with truth. Who wants to throw $ to the markets now?

What else are they going to do with it? I'm talking about real wealth, not Joe Blow's $50,000 401K. Maybe the wealthy will learn how to play poker or bet sporting events instead of playing the stock market. But I doubt it. It's still the best game around.

The best game around? Really?

How about grasp every dollar with white knuckles as even the wealthy see their peers and neighbors being pummeled with the reality of losing that 'real wealth' and the assets that they used to own going along with it?

You severely underestimate the depths of pessimism and fear gripping even the wealthiest and most solvent now. They know that they don't know what they need to take the sort of risks they used to.

Ask that German Billionaire who whacked himself by stepping in front of a train last week...

...Ask Sheldon Adelson or Joe Lewis.
