Quote from dgabriel:
Contrary to your statements:
1) I never said the Quantum Fund is paying taxes, here or anywhere else. I said Soros' personal income is subject to taxation. I did not say he was paying taxes, but an educated guess says he is in compliance with Federal, State, and Local tax laws.
No it is not. George Soros like most hedge fund mangers is not stupid enough to bring that money into the US. Instead he defers that capital into his own fund. There George is not subject to taxation nor does he pay taxes. Now, that is not to say he doesn't bring in a few hundred thousand in which he would be taxed.
2) You did not prove Soros does not pay taxes. You have no such proof, further, you have no true idea what his tax situation is.
No I do not know his exact tax situation since I am not his accountant, however you are not only dumb, but also very naive if you think he would ever transfer the billions he made offshore which he is not obligated to pay taxes on to bringing that money into a US bank where he will forfeit half of it. Come on.
3) No one is required to forfeit 50% of his wealth in this country (except an estate in the millions). Income is subject to taxation but wealth accumulation almost never is. You pay when you realize gains.
It's not millions, if your talking about the estate tax. The cuttoff I believe is 600k. That is far from millions. And yes, if you make more then 100k as single person you will pay close to 50% of your income to the gov't depending on which state you live in.
If Soros were campaigning for Bush, I imagine you would have no objection to his using his money to do so.
Yes, I would. I don't even like the NRA, tobacco companies and the religious organizations giving money to the republicans. Let the people speak out, not special interests.
Why would you permit someone to dictate tax policy if they turned over 50% of their wealth to the treasury, as you said in the case of Soros? By adopting a position that advocates the sale of public tax policy and taxation laws to a rich man you betray a distaste for Republican government and the Democratic process.
Maybe you should leave the country.
