Former Fox News Host Calls Network a ‘Cult,’ O’Reilly a Liar
While Fox News still comically refers to itself as “fair and balanced,” anyone with even the slightest bit of common sense knows the network is nothing more than a conservative entertainment channel masquerading as cable news. At this point, Fox News having the slogan “fair and balanced” is tantamount to what’s commonly referred to as “trolling.” Well, former Fox News host Eric Burns, who hosted Fox News Watch for over a decade, had some rather harsh words for his former employer during an interview with CNN’s Brian Stelter. “I think the way to understand this is to make a distinction between culture and cult,” Burns said. “I’m saying that the people who watch Fox News are cult-ish. Because for many years, conservatives have been extremely upset in this country because the only newscast that they had to watch were liberal, you people at CNN and how liberal you are. And NBC and ABC and CBS.” “The extreme right, they never had their own television station. When they got one, their appreciation, their audience loyalty – and I know what the audience loyalty was like when I was there – their audience loyalty soared. And so O’Reilly as the head of the cult is not held to the same standards as Brian Williams.” The issue with Fox News isn’t that they’re biased toward conservatives. If it were just that, it really wouldn’t be that big of a deal. The problem is that they’re liars and propagandists. Fox News is continually rated as one of the least trustworthy sources of information in this country. There’s a difference between bias and flat-out fabricating news and lying. But Burns said exactly what many have said about this entire controversy surrounding O’Reilly. The reason why Williams was suspended, while it’s clear that absolutely nothing is going to happen to O’Reilly, is because Fox News hosts aren’t seen as credible journalists who are expected to abide by a certain degree of integrity and honesty. There’s not going to be a huge push from the mainstream media to get O’Reilly taken off the air because it’s not exactly “breaking news” that someone on Fox News has been caught lying. Hell, the entire network is built on lies.
