I don't know why this shocks people. This is right out of the hard left playbook. Silence your opposition any way you can. It's about winning with these people. They regard "free speech" as a useful tool, but they see no reason to allow their enemies to use it.
The great failure of the conservative movement has been its refusal to grasp this logic. The Constitution will not protect us when leftist judges are free to abuse it and ruthless pols like Obama just ignore it.
Trump should have treated this political violence as the emergency it is and marshaled the full weight of the government against it. It has become quite clear that the violence is facilitated by and often coordinated with local governments. That is clearly a federal civil rights issue, but the DOJ is itself stocked with leftwing activists who have no interest in pursuing this.

I would pay a whole lot more to see Dick Cheney get waterboarded. I think that could break the all-time record for pay per view. What would be really kool is if something went a little wrong and Cheney ended up drowning. Then the people doing the water boarding could say ,"oops," this rarely happens, so it's usually not really torture. Cheney himself said waterboarding wasn't torture, so I don't see why he wouldn't gladly volunteer considering how much money could be raised for some worthy cause, like helping Porto Ricans recover from Maria.
Kahlid Sheik Mohammed was waterboarded after being the mastermind of 9/11 and countless other beheadings and atrocities here and there including the decapitation of Daniel Pearl and a failed plot to assassinate the Pope. No doubt your heart bleeds for him. It's Dick Cheney's blood that you want to see.
Note that Mr. Sheik is still alive today- your countrymen who jumped from the Twin Towers- not so much. Oh that's right.
