Nice, their land was in Mitchell county, and I just double checked and the sale was actually 3 years ago now. I looked up the auction price and he actually did all right looking at those values, roughly $8000 an acre for the farm land, it was the 10 acres with the house that went for much less that I was thinking about.

I thought that $3,000 chart average was low for IOWA /rich dirt/top trending farm land.
Those prices includes all the land a neighbor/neighbor farmer buys@ a premium.
I think Ted turner own 2 million acres\ but that rangeland that includes dryland/goes for much less @ acre....................................................................

My mistake, I misread the document I was looking at, the 10 acres plus the house went for $80,000. I did a quick look and wasn't paying attention. The land price is on a document I sent back to my father in law after reviewing it for him. Why he had me review it I don't know since my advice was he needs a lawyer to review the auction documents. The price was in the thousands per acre and neighbors were the ones doing the buying, but I can't remember the exact figure.
A side note the guy who bought the house was a son of a contractor from Chicago. Dad moved to Iowa to farm and the son decided to follow. He rebuilt the house and garage himself and it is amazing. We had thought of buying the house for a peaceful retirement, but figured we didn't have the time to do pretty much exactly what this guy did himself.
