Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation supports China´s fight against coronavirus with USD 100 Million

Xi appreciates support from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in China's fight against COVID-19

Chinese President Xi Jinping has written back to Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, after receiving a letter from the U.S. business leader on the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In his letter dated Feb. 20, the Chinese president wrote: "I deeply appreciate the act of generosity of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and your letter of solidarity to the Chinese people at such an important moment."

Gates said in his letter on Feb. 6 that his foundation has committed up to 100 million U.S. dollars in emergency funding, much of which will help China bolster epidemiological research, emergency intervention, and the research and development of drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics.

How about the "thing" in the White House would commit a lousy $100 Million for the fight in China against coronavirus? Politics aside - it would be the right thing to do!

For the record: Yes, I committed myself some monies to help our Chinese brothers and sisters!

Pretty generous considering all the pirated Windows 95 and Windows XP CDs that were sold in public in China. Yes, pirated copies of Windows XP could have been downloaded off the internet anywhere in the world during that time...but only some countries allowed it to be brazenly sold in public.

Microsoft has also had a rocky relationship with China. In 2011, former CEO Steve Ballmer stated that revenue from China was only equivalent to 5% of U.S. sales due to piracy, although total PC sales in both countries were roughly the same. Although the Chinese government vowed to stiffen up its anti-piracy laws, it also suggested that Microsoft lower the price of Windows to reduce piracy.

Technically we shouldn't have a problem with eating human meat

It is a survival thing, we only do it (eat dead humans) when we have no other choice.
Same with eating bats and monkeys. Done in the past out of survival and who can blame them, but they still don't want to stop.

You're effectively presenting the Muslim argument when they say pigs are dirty and Europe deserves swine flu because eating pigs is gross.

Agree. It is a bit hypocritical. Although for many it's hard to eat animals that humans have a good relationship with (cats and dogs) as well as creepy animals such as bats and reptiles. It's just weird. My cat regularly brings home mice and birds during the summer. I've never thought to myself, maybe I'll just microwave this and take a small bite just to see how it tastes. But to be fair, if bacon and ham were not popular, I never would have looked at a pig in the wild and thought to myself, I bet that pig is delicious - let me slaughter it and take a bite. Honestly, we would all be better off if we avoided the consumption of animal meat. The vegetarian diet is simply healthier. The bat soup thing was just to cover story. The virus was intentionally spread by a George Soros owned bioweapon facility in Wuhan.
the real virus was released by the US to bring China to heel

I ate horsemeat sausage from Finland a few years back, it was amazingly good. Would eat it again. People getting outraged over horse meat is funny.
I've had it, it's not bad and honestly don't see the point of letting old horses go to waste

Let domesticate and industrialize it then so we can all enjoy bush meat including monkeys. And why stop then stop at monkeys, lets make it ok to eat humans as well. We are already domesticated we only need to industrialise the practice.
don't be mad people like animal protein

We eat the protein that is available to us. I'm not sure how I could tell a poor farmer in western China not to eat dogs if he cannot afford anything else. Yes, there's plenty of poor Chinese, still. Even if we have other options, I don't see why we should discard valid alternatives. Bats and monkeys are iffy at best because of the diseases they carry and can transmit to us.

People in the west go hunting, not of any necessity but simply to hunt, to kill animals. Ironically most of these "hunters" are fat and should go on a diet, not eat more. It's a completely abnormal practice as well - "hey, life's good, I just ate, now let's go and kill Bambi".

There's many scientific reasons why we need to eat meat. Sure we could simulate the diet with substitutions but it gets complicated fast, not to mention extremely expensive.
If you meant still consuming eggs and milk products then that argument has more legs but still, meat is a necessary part of our diet.
It's not necessary so much for our muscle mass but for our brains, so it makes sense that NFL players can easily go vegan. Although the article mentions that very few actually went vegan, Brady is supposed to be 80% vegan, which just means a regular healthy diet -- hardly a vegan. It might sound "vegan" in US as Americans eat way way too much meat.

Personally I do think reducing red meat consumption is beneficial, going for fish, eggs and certain dairy products instead (despite the anti-milk movement, yogurt is an amazing food).

Your cat and bird story is funny, whenever I see something like that, I have an cognitive dissonance moment - wanting to punish the cat while understanding he's doing what he has always done.

Googling, i found that people don't eat dog because its cheaper but for the taste. It is considered a delicacy in many parts.

So they dont eat bats in China?
%% Don't know.
But I saw a pic of a WMT in Asia,, fresh alligators on ice. People in US south, eat alligators also. I enjoy deer meat, especially bar-b-q.; actually its more healthy than beef...…………………………………………………………………………………….

The west should stop shoving down the Asian throats on what they should eat and shouldn't. Asians have been eating these so called exotic food(by the west) for thousands of years. It's their daily food.

I don't think people are are eating bats and snakes because they are cheaper / more easily available food than chicken or pork. I'd imagine that the resources needed to raise a dog or cat are far greater than resources needed to raise chicken. For one, dogs and cats are carnivores so their food supply is likely more expensive than grain feed for chickens. Agree on the hunting. It never appealed to me.

It's a bit anecdotal, but the people that I have met who are vegan / vegetarian are a heck of a lot healthier / in better shape than most of the people I know who eat meat. A lot of Indians don't eat meat (possibly inherited culturally from Hinduism) and I work with several who have engineering Ph. D's from good universities and don't seem to be mentally held back by their diet. Personally, I still eat meat, but I'm trying to cut it out of my diet as much as possible. I never really enjoyed food that much to begin with so it's not hard to do. For example, every morning, I start my day with a smoothie containing almond milk, greek yogurt, kale, spinach, cabbage, carrots, and frozen mixed berries including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, mango, pineapple, and peaches. If I'm feeling really hungry, I'll add oatmeal or eggs. I eat that every day as my breakfast and never get tired of it. The hardest part has been giving up ice cream, but I limit myself to only one serving per week. Plan to eliminate it completely eventually. Diet is one component of health, the other part of diet is calorie intake. The only known way to increase lifespan is calorie restriction and although it works well in chimps, not sure how well it works in humans.

During the springtime, my cat regularly brings home something to eat at least once every couple of days. I'm sure he catches a lot of prey that he does not bring home. He kills for sport, but sometimes will eat the animal. I feed him well, but once saw him eat an entire mouse -- head, tail, and all. Probably about a quarter to half the time, he'll eat the animal if I let him. Twice he has caught a full-grown rabbit. I wish I could get him to stop hunting and he will eventually become an indoor-only cat. He's just not ready for that now.

People have been doing stupid, nasty shit for thousands of years. It does not mean it's the right thing to do. If someone feels compelled to go to a market where an animal is slaughtered in front of them, something is deeply wrong with that human being. Maybe what we are seeing is the application of Darwinian evolution to the human race.

Besides an idiotic article from the New York Post, do you have any proof?
