Chinese President Xi Jinping has written back to Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, after receiving a letter from the U.S. business leader on the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In his letter dated Feb. 20, the Chinese president wrote: "I deeply appreciate the act of generosity of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and your letter of solidarity to the Chinese people at such an important moment."

Gates said in his letter on Feb. 6 that his foundation has committed up to 100 million U.S. dollars in emergency funding, much of which will help China bolster epidemiological research, emergency intervention, and the research and development of drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics.

How about the "thing" in the White House would commit a lousy $100 Million for the fight in China against coronavirus? Politics aside - it would be the right thing to do!

For the record: Yes, I committed myself some monies to help our Chinese brothers and sisters!

BEIJING : China's tech billionaire Jack Ma has pledged over $2 million to support the development of antiviral drugs to combat the new coronavirus which has killed 2,236 people in the country and infected more than 75,000 others.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the epidemic as a public health emergency.

In accordance with a deal signed between the Jack Ma foundation and Columbia University, the 15 million yuan will be used for supporting a research project led by Dr David Ho, a world-renowned HIV/AIDS researcher with the university, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The researcher will lead in setting project objectives, conducting research and tracking results, said a source of the foundation based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in China, with Wuhan as the epicenter, Ho and many researchers at Columbia University have been following the situation closely and started related work to combat the virus, the report said.

As the coronavirus continues to spread throughout China, infecting more than 43,000 people globally and causing more than 1,300 deaths so far, Justin Bieber is doing what he can to support.

The crooner took to Instagram the day before his Changes album release (Feb. 13) to send love to China "as a collective humanity and have made a donation to support."

"I know it’s a very scary time in your country right now, but my prayers and support go out to you guys. You guys are amazing," Bieber says in the clip, alongside a photo of his donation confirmation to Beijing Chunmiao Children Aid Foundation.
