can you explain to me how this was text book? I thought earning plays were all a bet because it could go either way depending on the company's earnings.

After when the stock trades based on order flow. If you watched it trade you would understand it. Before they come out yes it's a bet, after the retracement you may find setups along the way
Just wondering, what set up did you see at 269.5? I was buying it from the low 270s on that last move down...my average price came to 269....scare the shit out of me when it went down to 265....could not hold it past my break even price and miss out on the move back to 280. This is what happens when I get in too early, make it hard to hold for the profit.
