That can't be a legitimate reason to pick a VP.

I see the same crap on the republican side, unsuitable people being picked as running mate. Dan Quayle, Sarah Palin, Spiro Agnew.

The major exception was Dick Cheney who was possibly the most powerful and effective VP in US history. I just love the dude, Darth Fucking Vader. :)
