biden speech

He held out for the longest before his team finally made a statement on it but he explictly told police reform supporters , millions who marched, voted and voted for the first time for that issue alone that he was with us and it was a top priority. Now he he sounds like republicans who enthusiastically support police with no mention of holding them accountable when they kill and brutalize citizens.

This issue alone will cost him 2024.Blacks and police reform progressives are pissed. Most will stay home, some like me will be voting for the republican.
I watch the SOTU. He talked about police accountability. Reform takes money, not defunding.

The guy's trying.

I dont think he's trying at all.Pre election he said he would cancel 10,000 in student loan debt, which he can do by executive order. The last time Paski was asked about it she says if Congress sends him a bill forgiving student loan debt he'll sign it.

He has not attempted to play hardball with Manchin and Senima in any way to get his agenda passed and keep his promises.

If I understand, that is Tony's beef entirely. He lied to get the progressive support in the primaries, and then turned his back on those positions once elected. Its this betrayal that pisses off the progressives.

I may not support those positions, but I recognize the lie.

You nailed it

Anyway, you guys are following these things more closely than I am. But, big picture, better Biden than the guy who was running on the other side. And the farther left you go, the lower the chances of an election victory.

Maybe I missed it but I don't recall him saying anything about reform, just enthusiastic police support and calls for more funding.

He should have said this in speeches during the George Floyd protests,of course he wouldn't be president if he did

I noticed this too and found it perplexing considering his pretty steady adherence to masks then I realized Biden talked about moving forward and living with covid, a test and a pill etc. So it took it as a symbolic statement by Biden - it’s time to move on. Where everyone else stands on that is up to them. That was my interpretation and that the chamber was filled with people who had negative tests.

The problem is the "far left" of today is merely the sensible left of yesterday so not being "far left" will cost him dearly

There is some truth in that. But he has to govern in the world we live in today. Change is more easily accepted and adopted in incremental steps.

For context, I consider myself a bit left of center, and nowhere near today's right.
