As I said yesterday, the dems that want to move Biden along will not come out and diss him but will show a greater willingness to look at things in the name of fairness and "letting the process work."

The clown below is one of a growing crowd who will not defend Joe or throw him a lifeline either because they are gaming out 2024.

Always amazing how these lefty media dem bootlickers will frame an issue and what they will run for headlines.

Yeah sure, Joe is the model- the gold standard- for how to handle classified documents.

The article also has some very pithy and damning comments from Chris Stewart about Biden's actions.

Both Stewart and Goldman are Congressmen. So why did CBS choose to run a lead-in headline based on Goldman's comments rather than Stewarts?

Both Trump and DeSantis would be strong players. But if there are third, fourth- place players getting votes they are taking them from Trump or Desantis. I am not prepared yet to say whether Trump of DeSantis would do better in that scenario.

Also, it depends on what is meant by "coming out on top." Even Trump got the most votes in the field, he may be "on top" in that sense but he has to get to a magic number to come out "on top" at the Convention. And realistically, Trump is too controversial now to run the table even if he does well- just for the sake of argument. So in a crowded field, the question will become "how many votes are with third and fourth place candidates and who will they coalesce with at the end of day- Trump or Desantis?

The additional issue is that until DeSantis officially gets off the fence on whether to run or not... there is a lot of confusion among other possible Republican candidates.

State of play: DeSantis himself is unlikely to make a final decision about running for president until at least May, after Florida's legislative session ends.
  • Former Vice President Mike Pence, who spent the holidays with family discussing his future political plans, isn't planning to make any presidential announcement soon. "It's in his interest to wait longer. He's always available as an option later," one top Pence adviser told Axios, calling him "a known commodity."
  • Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is at the start of a critical legislative session that will determine whether he can secure conservative policy victories with a divided legislature. Any Youngkin presidential decision would come later in the process.

Between the lines: DeSantis is already taking some hits on his right flank from South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem over abortion. Florida currently has a 15-week abortion ban in place, but pro-life activists have been advocating for stricter limits.
  • At the same time, DeSantis has offered more red meat for the MAGA movement lately — including calling for COVID-19 vaccine makers to be investigated for potential wrongdoing.
  • By trying to maneuver to Trump's right, DeSantis could be opening up space for a more pragmatic conservative to gain momentum.
Reality check: Even with a lackluster start to his campaign, Trump is still the Republican front-runner in primary polls.
The bottom line: We're likely to see a historically slow start to a presidential campaign, with many "known unknowns" about the size and nature of the field.
  • The first Republican primary debate for the 2016 presidential election was held in August 2015. Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker dropped out that September.
  • By January 2019, nine Democratic presidential candidates had already declared campaigns against Trump.

I guess so. Although I process it differently but end out in the same place so whatever.

I don't buy into the bit about DeSantis having fear of going head to head with Trump. I do think he has a well-founded fear that that is not the best strategy and the best strategy is let Trump do what he has to do and continue to see how that works out for him- or not. In other words come in as late as he can and let the polls "draft him."

The risk of course is that if he stands back early that Trump will be off to a roar early. Okay fine. But it is a risk that I think he should and is taking. Also, the weeks are going by and he is not seeing "the roar" from Trump or in the polls either so he has some rationale on his side.

DeSantis has high standing in the country now among republicans so I don't think he wants it bad enough to stand up there like one of thirty clowns like the dems do and then get whittled down or be like Joe Biden running when 2/3 of the country does not want him to run. He has his own little fiefdom going and will need to see the republicans digest Trump's current status and see a high level of interest- already visible- from republican voters.

Let Trump be Trump for a few more months and see how that is going. No emergency here for DeSantis.

The wife's health is a factor too.

Right now, I am thinking Marianne Williamson is a real threat to Biden.

In 2024 the Dems cannot keep banging the trump drum if he is not in the election and the current GOP candidates have basically rejected him. Dems left without any more trump arguments as they flounder. It will be easy to make dems look stupid by pointing out they are still fighting trump in 2024 who is not even running nor is any candidate a supporter while GOP is focused ont eh country and moving forward blah blah blah...
