As a "first time offender", Hunter is unlikely to get 25 years if convicted in open court. He would get a couple years at most plus parole. All you need to do is take a look at the sentences other people got on these type of firearm charges to serve as a guideline of what will happen. I actually expect Hunter's lawyer may plead the charges and arrive at a deal with the prosecutor which provides minimal (or no) time.

There's more to this, those charges were a bit extreme.
It's quite enjoyable really that it's charges the Republican extremists hate and will feel drawn to defend him on.
