In response to a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee, Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, has proposed a public hearing instead of a closed-door deposition. The committee, led by Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), had initially sought a closed-door session on Dec. 13 to investigate Hunter Biden’s business dealings as part of an impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

Lowell expressed mistrust in Comer and Republicans, accusing them of manipulating facts in closed-door sessions. In a letter to Comer, Lowell stated, “If, as you claim, your efforts are important and involve issues that Americans should know about, then let the light shine on these proceedings.”

Highlighting Comer’s previous statement welcoming Hunter Biden before the committee, Lowell confirmed Hunter’s willingness to answer relevant questions but insisted on a public Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing, rejecting a one-sided process.

The House Oversight Committee’s response to Hunter Biden’s offer for public testimony remains uncertain. House Republicans on various committees are investigating the foreign business activities of Hunter Biden, President Biden’s brother James Biden, and other family associates as part of the impeachment inquiry.

The Judiciary panel, chaired by Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), previously heard from special counsel David Weiss in a voluntary interview. The White House has consistently denied any wrongdoing by the president, labeling the impeachment inquiry as “congressional harassment.”

Hunter Biden’s legal counsel criticized the investigation, claiming it has yielded no substantial findings. Lowell argued that a public proceeding would prevent selective leaks and manipulated transcripts, emphasizing that the American people should judge the accusations for themselves.

Lowell concluded the letter by stating that Hunter Biden is willing to appear at a public hearing on the initially noticed date of December 13 or any other date in December that can be arranged, urging an end to what he deemed an “empty investigation.”

“Your empty investigation has gone on too long wasting too many better-used resources. It should come to an end. Consequently, Mr. Biden will appear at such a public hearing on the date you noticed, December 13, or any date in December that we can arrange,” Lowell stated according to The Hill. “From all the individuals you have requested depositions or interviews, all you will learn is that your accusations are baseless. However, the American people should see that for themselves.”

Seems like these Democratic lawyers know all the tricks the Democrats do and they are trying to not let that happen to them

The Committee has said he will have a chance/ be required to testify in open committee as well.

But they are doing an investigation and do not want all of their investigation leads and developments broadcast while in process. You know, Hunter and Joe want what the FBI gave Joe which was full announcement about any investigation and the FBI calling ahead to tell them that their house is going to be raided. Not gonna happen. At the committee level anyway. No doubt the FBI/DOJ will still front run it to give Biden's accomplices a chance to clean up first if they can.

If you have just an open committee meeting with no private session first then all the others scheduled to testify know what was said and you lose any chance to discover where perjury is taking place or testimony differs. In other words you lefties don't want Camp Biden to be investigated the way Camp Trump has.
You didn't see Paul Mannafort being notified by the FBI/DOJ that his house was going to be raided, did you? And he and Roger Stone did not get notices to appear in court did they? Nope, they were raided and shackled and taken to jail.
As several of the Biden's should be.

Despite the claims of some right-wingers -- there is no proposal from GOP for Hunter to testify both in public and private. The GOP outright rejected any public session.

Ongoing investigation. Countless more witnesses to come and some to come and then return again for more testimony (think Hunter).

Also, the DOJ has an active investigations and indictments against Hunter. More to come in California. And yes, you are probably correct there, in that the republicans had to shame the DOJ into taking action, they got caught red handed giving him a pass and running out the clock on him.

Oh, the shame that the Biden crime family has foisted upon the country.
