A true liberal in action!!!!
Or should that be non-action?
Just like my liberal friends who keep saying they are fine with paying more taxes. Until, they do their taxes and whine and cry when they find out their taxes have gone up and they have pay more taxes? LOL
I have a lefterrhoid teacher friend who goes ballistic every time I tell him that I support school choice. The lefty script now, I am sure you know, calls for them to say that "teachers are all paying for school supplies out of their pocket." That's the canned talking point. I tell him that you won't have that problem with school choice and parents are already paying to send their kids to school but then having to teach them at home out of their own pocket. womp....womp...womp.
Then he rattles off the talking point about how it only benefits the rich whereas public benefit all the poor kids etc. So, I say "shouldn't you be saying public schools are not benefitting the poor kids which is a more accurate statement." womp....womp..womp.
So then his script gives him five or six more "the sky is falling" talking points if we have more school choice and I say "well, I am willing to consider a public option for schools just as you want for Obamacare." AHHHROOOOOOOO!!!! The huskies start howling.
The teachers unions are pushing for online education mostly. What they do not realize is parents will see the benefits of online education with good teachers from foreign countries now able to teach your kids and give them a good education without the vile indoctrination into how good socialism and communism is. They are actually, facilitating outsourcing their jobs. When so many are out of work, including, teachers from poorer countries, the trend to online education is going to only increase. Teachers from other countries too are hardworking and dedicated to educating children. They do not have an agenda and only want to earn a living to provide for themselves and their family members. The beauty is it can be all done remotely.
Actually parents are not seeing the benefits of online education. The majority of parents simply view the education system as a baby-sitting service -- they want their children out of the house. In lower income households this may be because the parents need to be at work during the day. In higher income households it may be that the parent does not want to have to deal with her spawn while she goes play tennis at the country club. There is a variety of reasons - the bottom line is that parents want the children out of the house and do not want online education. Some are willing to accept it for a period of time due to COVID but it is not something they ever want to endure again.
If anything this online education period due to COVID has strengthened the parents resolve not to have their children educated online. We have already seen some parents dropping their student from public schools which are online to enroll them in private schools that were holding classes in person. Usually this has turned out to be a dumb decision because the majority of private schools (at least locally including the ones visited by Pence/DeVos) had to shutdown due to COVID within three weeks of starting and switch to online. Now all the parents are stuck paying the tuition for at least a year and cannot switch back to public schools for 2020/2021 year.
Why do teachers want classes to be done online? Because the teachers are most at risk at COVID. We had yet another teacher in our state die from COVID this past week. Teachers (note that 23 states have no teachers unions including NC) are pushing for online mostly because of the health issues they face from getting infected from COVID. This is a wise decision based on the personal risk they face from a disease.
