Bid higher than Ask. Why?

don you're saying i'll get a better fill using sdot plus 5 cents vs market orders on sdot? i've tried that and haven't seen a lot of difference.maybe other could comment. fills on sdot just take a long time in general. sometimes i get so frustrated with the speed of sdot i just hit arca

The reason you do it this way is because the assistant can fill the order with a click of the mouse, at the better price. Market orders have to be executed by the Specialist, and he generally batches them, which takes more time in most cases.

Regarding the price vs. speed you might find this interesting.

Does somebody know how the emini futures trading engines at the exchanges deal with this?
Would Don's comment for stocks also hold for emini's?

Hi everybody!

Can anyone explain to me why sometimes Bid becomes grater than Ask? How it could happen? I can see that it T&S screen.
Thanks

Maybe it is the AMEX specialist screwing up the markets on various ETFs.
