Better to switch off LCD or run screensaver?

Which puts more wear and tear on an LCD monitor, turning it off and on 10-15 times a day, or leaving it on all day?

You should turn it off, or better yet, set it up to turn itself off automatically after 15 minutes idle time.

The lifetime of LCDs is dominated by the lifetime of the CCFL backlight, which is dominated by operating hours, not on-off cycles. The less it is on, the longer it will last. CCFLs are rated for 20000 or 30000 hour lifespans - just a few years if you leave them on 24/7.

Plus, turning it off saves energy.

don't know if they do it for LCDs, but my tv has a 'power-down/up'
setting I use which the manufacturer states increases tube life

Don't turn on and off with the power switch. Turn on and off with the Screen saver and power saving mode in windows or the same feature setting in the monitor itself.

I always leave mine on, when they are not in use they hibernate so the backlight is shut off.
