Best time to trade?

Is it best to place trades during open outcry (9:00 AM to 2:30 PM EST ) or close of regular trading hours (3:30 PM to 4:00 PM EST) or some other time? I use CME GLOBEX as my means. Exploring expanding my universe of futures trading. CL futures specifically. Appreciate the comments.
 
Varies. Assuming you are day trading. Always good to wait and see the London open around 2am ET and see if they don't play around with it a bit. First 45 mins of NYMEX pit can be tough also.

If you are more concerned about getting size filled, well than just watch the volume chart and see when there is size. Typically can do abotu 10% of total daily volume without moving price too much and losing slippage.

When I traded the ES futures I traded between 3:45 and 4:15 PM EST ( the close). I did this "because I wanted to see all of the votes" before I placed my trades for position trade, not daytrade. Is there an analogous time trading gold or crude?
