My experience after several trips to Spain , is that generally , if you learn at least to say, gracias, por favor, buenos dias etc, Spaniard appreciate your effort, even if your pronunciation or grammar are not perfect.

Obviously like any other place in the world , where the concentration of tourists is very high and locals have to deal with hundreds and hundreds of them everyday, courtesy might become an extra.(por desgracia)
 
Regarding Moab a few pages back. Visiting that place is awesome (I go there to mtn bike at least once a year), but living there? NO WAY! You are in a tiny (a few thousand people) island of coolness surrounded by a vast ocean of social wasteland called Utah. If you are a loner that wants to wander the canyons that's OK. But if you want a social life you will be miserable. The Mormons won't even let you have real beer!

Regarding Western Colorado, that is spot on. Crested Butte is very cool and very underappreciated. Telluride and Durango are awesome too. Don't forget Santa Fe NM.

But my pick is (start laughing) Boise ID. Medium city life, immense outdoor activities. I mtn bike from my back door. I am running class 3/4/5 rivers in the evening when my non-trading buddies get off from work. I can see the ski resort from my front door. The largest wilderness in the lower 48 is 2 hours from here.

I admit it's not a tax haven nor a capital of culture, but if you want the real outdoors without giving up all of the city stuff, it cannot be beat. Real estate is reasonable, the weather is mild.

If the whitewater were better, I'd actually say Sun Valley ID is best. The mountain biking there is incredible.

You are probably right about Boise. I have lived in Denver (OK) and Phoenix (hot in the summer) and am now in Rapid City SD.

I was looking for a no tax state and this isn't it. Too small and no social life. Fly fishing is my thing. Also am thinking about Reno and Vancouver WA. No state tax, close to fishing and for Vancouver no state tax and next to Oregon with no sales tax.

A lot of law enforcement types - especially from southern California - seem to prefer Idaho for retirement.

Build 'em a cabin where not many other people are.
Trading by cabin Wi-fi...? The idea, but not yet...?
Satellite too slow.... DSL...? Cable?....hardly....

Lots of peace and quiet flyfishing those rivers and
streams, too, I guess.
 
Has anyone visited South Africa? I hear Cape Town is a beautiful city with a great beach. Any thoughts on South Africa as a great place to trade from??
 
Maybe the best part of Jamaica is the north coast - Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Negril, etc. That's the resort area - beaches, water sports, great hotels and restaurants, good looking women from around the world, relaxed lifestyle. Currency exchange rate like JA$50 to US$1. For broadband search Cable & Wireless Jamaica.
