Best Place to trade in the world - Quality of Life

Quote from ElCubano:

Spain is an awesome place .....This is by far the best Country I have ever visited...the people there know how to live..and the country offers lots of natural beauty....you want a lunch break try 2-3 hours of lunch where you are forced to partake becuase no one else will answer the other side of ur business call and the stores are shut down.....:D.....

ElCubano, thanks! Tell us what else you liked about Spain. How would a young non-Spanish speaking, single guy enjoy or not enjoy Spain?

O.K. In the last 37 pages no one has mentioned:

Antigua- Caribbean paradise with no taxes (but $20,000 per year permanent residency fee)

Gibraltar- self ruling British colony, attached to southern Spain (tax rates similar to the US but capped at 20,000 pounds sterling for non native residents)

it is not so much Spain but the people of Spain...."They work to live not live to work"...just a total difference when it comes to life... and they have greta outdoors...Although I have been to about a dozen naitonal parks in the USA and we have lots to offer also....the thing about the states is that life is faster paced period.....but as more Mcd's open in countries like spain they will eventually fall into the same trap....peace

Can I survive for long without speaking Spanish?

How hard, how long for one to learn Spanish?

Are the Spaniards open to non-natives/foreigners?

I agree Spain might be up there on the list of desirable places, however you said "They work to live not live to work"

Traders Live to trade (at least the good ones do), How will a true trader mentality cope with such a laid back society? Would it be difficult to socialize and bond with the locals having such a different work ethic? Would you be regarding as an outsider or embraced?
Perhaps, after the trading day is done, the contrast would be refreshing.....
Some ramblings......
(I was considering Spain myself for later years...retirement..with some trading to keep the 'ol heart pumping)

You got it!

It's the contrast outside of trading that would appeal to a top trader...

No way would one allow a different surrounding work ethic to erode his or her earnings!

1) I dont see why not....Many ball players go to Europe including Spain to play hoops. They survive you should also...

2) I would say spanish is one of the easier languages to learn..Although they speak a different dialouge than my spanish it should be easier than say Chinese or Russian. I had a hard time myself..:D

3) Yes and No...as with any Country you have Nice and you have arrogance, but I say the majority will welcome you with open arms and you will not find the arrogance you have in lets say France or for that matter the good ole USofA....:D

Thanks ElCubano!

I guess I'll add Spain to my list of places to explore in 2004.

So why aren't you there, what are you still doing in Miami??
