Thank you. That's exactly what I meant. The example I brought up was meant to illustrate this point only. I jumped away from the dog instead of kicking it because I didn't want to hurt the innocent being. That should give you a clue that I was not primarily complaining about the infraction committed, but rather about the boldness and lack of perspective the criminals displayed.

I understand your concern, but you might want to think about this: If you don't move to the south-east, you should be reasonably safe from lynchings.

Plus, just like a labor union, the NAACP (a sort of union for "colored people") has a lot of power here. Non-white humans do get lots of breaks just because of their racial background. I know a lot of white Americans who keep complaining about this very fact. But the federal government is stronger than all of them. So if you don't happen to be from the Middle East you might want to give it a try. If you are, I'm afraid you are going to have to wait until the current wave of brainwashing has ended and the propaganda focuses on a different class of people as their scapegoats.

I get the feeling that you are discounting the average american based on your regional experience.

Perhaps a change of location within the USA would be your best bet. The Pacific Northwest is very civilized, as a Canadian coming from Toronto and Montreal, I feel totally at ease here, crime is low, the majority very educated. The estern USA and Canada is totally stressed out...bumper to bumper at 70mph. Not here, drivers actually make room to let you merge into traffic. People are polite and respectfull. I can't remember the last time I saw someone give someone else the finger.

Quality of life is excellent, outdoor sports abound within driving distance. You can downhill ski, golf, sail and bbq on the same day if you like!

Housing prices are lower than California although they continue to rise.

Technology abounds (Seattle)...DSL Cable Satellite T1 whatever you want.

Medical services are EXCELLENT (Compared to Canada-I rate as POOR to average).

No state or city income tax in Washington state, just Federal Income tax.

Maybe I am missing the point here, maybe you are looking for a Cheap place...and not old enough to realize or require good medical services, and not enough income from trading to afford a west coast lifestyle.

BTW I did consider Vancouver....Income taxes are an absolute killer for me (but again depends on your income)

This is a great thread but technically it shouldn't be in the 'Hook Up' forum. I want to let it stay here so that it doesn't get hidden in 'Chit Chat' though. However, if it gets too political or if it becomes a "I hate USA", "I hate Europe" etc..., then it will be moved to "Chit Chat".

Thank you for your suggestion. As a matter of fact, the Northwest is pretty much the one region of the US I have never even visited. What are sales taxes and state income taxes like up there?

You didn't read my post thoroughly, there is NO STATE or CITY Income tax in Washington State, only Federal Taxes.

Seattle area property taxes are competitive, works out to about 1% of market value.

Sales tax depends on where you live, ranges from 7.6-8.8%.

Oregon is a couple hours away with NO Sales tax, but they do have an State Income tax....

Portland Oregon is a great place for a weekend getaway. Theater...SHOPPING...Fabulous restaurants (they have 2 culinary schools there pumping out chefs by the dozens every couple of months)...get the hint?

By the way, if you are a downhill skier, Crystal Mountain...1.5 hour drive from Seattle, 3,000 ft vertical drop (like the big ones in Colorado) fabulous views of Mt. Ranier at the top, and reasonably priced. Easy access for the day or a great w/end.

Golf courses up the wazoooo.

Fishing for King Salmon in puget sound (your backyard) I nail several 20-30 pounders every year.

Resorts in the San Juan Islands (a couple hours away by Ferry)

November to March is rainy. Summer is dry as a bone and sunny every day from early July to October.

Too many good things to list.....check it out for yourself!
 
you pay zero ( gravity) in taxes and can hit a golfball 1000 yrds !

of course it is harder to find a good beach in the summer to
watch the babes go by :)
