I disagree that Kinetick is only worth it if you have CME fees waived, that is an opinion and not a fact. Exchange fees aside, Kinetick is more cost effective than eSignal or IQFeed.

As per the website URL you refer to, a paid version of NinjaTrader is required to be eligible to have CME Exchange data fees waived. That is clearly stated on the Kinetick website as you pointed out.

Yes Ray, that's my personal opinion :-)

If you use a payed version of Ninjatrader I would strongly advise to use Kinetick since it's the top notch DTN/IQFeed for less money. I'm not so happy data quality wise with the so called 'free' data feeds like zenfire, TT or Rithmic.

That's also a personal opinion :-)
 
I'm a little confused about the kinetick issue. I assumed it was an historical data feed to supplement the IB feed.

What would be the point of using ninja if you have to pay the exchange fees? Someone please straighten thi sout. I don;t want to waste a lot of time setting up ninja only to find that I have to pay exchange fees to get stable data.

- NinjaTrader as you know is a trading platform that has charting an analytics built in
- NinjaTrader requires either streaming or streaming/historical data source (depending on your intended use)
- You can use a brokers data feed like Interactive Brokers or a market data service like Kinetick for your data source to drive NinjaTrader
- Different data sources offer different levels of service
- If you are happy with the IB data source --> Then you are fine
- If you are unhappy with the IB data source --> Then you can look at alternate data sources like Kinetick

you specify the data folder that contains data files for SC to access and display them in charts. So you have multiple SCs hook up to multiple data feeds but they all point to the same data folder thus any SC can access any other SC data to display them.

I think you are referring to them not allowing two real-time feeds to be mixed on the same copy maybe but they definitely allow mixing historical and real-time feeds quite easily. I use Sierra Charts historical data in the same copy that I receive real-time data from TT. No separate copies of Sierra Chart are necessary and I can reference the historical data from my intraday charts .

Under the Data/Trade settings there is an option to either use the data feed for historical data or use SC historical data service along side the real-time data feed.
 
I find it frustrating that ESig won't allow use of the IB data feed with some sort of historical backfill. I would gladly pay the platform fee to use that. I just object to getting ripped off for multiple futures exchange fees.

The problem is, I would like to find out if the IB feed is satisfactory without wasting a lot of time setting up your app. Sierra is up front and says it is not if you want to run some longer term charts, ie weeks or months on daily or say 60 minute periodicity. They've been in the charting business a long time, so I have to assume if it's not adequate for them, it's not going to be adequate on ninja.

Thanks for the explanations, but I am not sure if you are saying the same thing using different terminology or not. I guess in my limited understanding I would like it to work as brock says it does, but I thought it required the steps nkhoi mentioned, which seem more involved.

Adequate is subjective to your personal requirements. Only you can determine that by knowing what you need to chart, compare that against IB data limitations and go from there. Both NinjaTrader and Sierra are no different in terms of answering the question is IB sufficient or must you pay for an alternate data source. I can't speak for Sierra but if all you require is extended daily data, just download NinjaTrader which includes a pre-built FREE daily data only connection. Data will go back 10 to 15 years. Thus you get free software and free daily data for stocks, futures and forex. If you need intraday historical and IB is not sufficient, then you will have to pay for it.
