Best Cell Phone to Trade From?? (for emergency)

I was thinking about having a cell phone to check quotes and in case my DSL does down.

Any suggestions to the best (or better) ones out there? I was thinking about the Treo 650, but would any internet enabled cell phone allow me to trade out of something?

with a verizon phone you can use it as a modem for your laptop or desktop for free. you get about dialup speeds.
