Best book on Lifting

Quote from taclander:

Holy crap some of you people do alot of drugs! A multivitamin should be more than enough. Cripes I'd like to add muscle mass, but I'm not going to shut down my kidneys, liver and heart so I can regain muscle mass. I work out almost everyday alternating weights and aerobic, and put on no muscle mass, but I can live with that over having transplant surgery in a few years and not working out at all.
From what I've seen of my kids the best thing to do is vary your workout routines. Cycle through different lifts when you are lifting over a week or two, and try to vary the aerobic end also, although I admit I find that harder to do. The treadmill is there, but having to run to the pool is a headache and too much time.
Eat right and you can get all the crap you ingest from phony health companies and doctors in the right and natural quantities.

ya, lot of stone cold ego maniacs on this site, some think they have a lock on mother nature , think they are god's gift to humanity..

when theyre 80 and ripping their kidneys out :p

I don't know. I've heard that said time and again, but it just never quite registers with me. Working with weights, I like to get the most bang for the buck in the gym, so I do compound exercises almost exclusively. I don't think there are all that many compound exercises to meaningfully engage in cycling, assuming I am interpreting your comment properly.

Yeah, "periodization" is only worthwhile when performing isolated exercises. I alternate the following on a 4-split:

Bench, squats, dips
Deads, rows, biceps
Overheads, reverse hypers
Abs every 4th day

I piss just fine, thanks. I don't recall outlining any steroid cycle here. You have a problem with resistance training?

Don't worry, you're ALL MAN. Your secret is safe with me.

i love resistance training...my arms are almost 15 1/2!

i was just wondering why the need to carry so much muscle. All that muscle is very high maintenance in terms of time and calories. too many calories age's prematurely.
