Best book on Lifting

Quote from Maverick74:

I agree only because when you run actual stairs, which I use to do at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Florida, you can run so much faster. On that stairmaster I don't think I could ever run without falling off the damn thing and killing myself. I'm just saying in terms of gym equipment, it's the best. I use to love doing stadiums. Unfortunately I don't really have access to one. Stadiums are bar none the best way to get in absolute ridiculous shape.

Yeah, agree 100% on stadiums. The extension per step makes it so much more difficult as well. There is no comparison, but very few have access. Running stairwells is a good compromise, especially if you do the negative (walking/running down as well). I see so many people propping themselves on the rails of the stepmills.

Nitro, don't use the rails to offload bodyweight when using the stepmill.

Quote from Maverick74:

Plus running on actual stairs you can do sprints which absolutely kill you. I don't know how one would even try to do a sprint on the stairmaster. Of course on the plus side the angle of the steps is steeper on the stairmaster vs the steps. And like you said, going down the actual steps is a bitch so you have to work that into your routine.

It is possible to do sprints on the stairmaster (or at least go to maximum speed). You just have to remain very focused and stay on the balls of your feet. One slip and you're the laughing stock of the gym for a while. The good news is that you won't be able to sprint for very long.
You can also try taking 2 steps at a time, at a low speed, for a decent leg workout.

My taste, but I have to tell you, I am easily seduced by personality and it is a horrible crime that I post pictures of beautiful actresses as if that is what it took. I have always known it, but I didn't realize how smitten I could get.

One note: My pecs are getting stronger, but they are getting stronger in a weird way, from the inside out. I mean this, take the very center of my chest, the part of your pecs that are closest to this center, this is the part that is getting stronger. The outside of my pecs are not responding.

Maybe I need to target that more carefully somehow...

It's one muscle.

Exactly!

And Nitro, if you want your chest to grow, can I ask if you are doing squats and deadlifts? What does that have to do with your chest growing? Lol!

The squat, benchpress, and deadlift are the most "anabolic" compound exercises you can do for muscle growth. Those guys in the gym that work just chest and arms all the time will be lame all the time. You've gotta to do the above three to be freaky.

Watch what happens to your chest when you do the above three compound exercises. Guarantee you'll get results!
(That's if you're eating 6-7 small meals/day, sleeping 8-8.5 hours/day, and drinking at least 1.5 gallons of ice cold water/day.)

This isn't rocket science, but at the same time, it is a science...

Great advice!

Now go find a stadium Nitro! I use a local High School stadium at 5-6:00am, and trust me, it's NOT crowded there! You will get a REAL workout running stairs. I warm up first by slow jogging the rubber coated track for two laps (1/2 mile)

Also, if you're traveling, go to the hotel, and run the fire escape stairs.

Last, ALWAYS stretch when finished! Gets the lactic acid out, and lets you replenish your muscles with much needed glycogen, and amino acids.

Carry on! Ooh rah!:)
