No, I didn't mean to say what you wrote above. I'll have to reread my post to see exactly what I said.
I do have to comment, though, that the typical weight lifter (or even sprinter that wants to put muscle on his quads) will have a baseline calories level of 2,500-2,700 calories and needs to eat about 300 extra calories which puts him right at 3,000. (Of course, a sprinter may need to consume even more depending on his workout.)
