Best and Worst CNBC Commercials

trdrmac - placeware, and i love those too.

i wish they'd have them on the site; i wanted to point non-cnbc people to it, saying "check out these cool commercials!"

i've seen 3 so far (man run into bus, man on plane, woman falls asleep on the phone).

They're funny but I still don't understand what those ads are supposed to be for. Kind of like that SmartBeep commercial from way back where the girl farts in the car. Anyone remember that?

I have the AVI of the Smartbeep commercial. I play it every now and again for a good laugh. I think they were trying to sell pagers, remember those from the dark ages?

I think the PlaceWare is selling the convenience of not having to travel. When I traveled a lot there were flights where a kid would crap it's pants or cry for most of the flight, so I can kind of relate. Plus the fact that many meetings I ended up thinking "and why did I need to be here for this?"

Couldn't agree more.
Do they really think people care about how Jeanie saved f**king Christmas, Gautum doesn't know how to use complicated graphics software, or how Giani went from PC and UNIX to Mac OS?

If their stock price has any correlation to their TV ads, I'll be surprised if they can stay out of single digit land. ;)

did someone mention the Archipelago commercials that were playing in 2000? These were good for a chuckle. O. I guess the Nozulla commercial I posted about was one of those...Other favorites: The lady doing the video for the dating service, the kid with the resume.

For bull market audacity, the "split alert" product must be a contender, if it's commercials weren't. This was a service that sent a message to your beeper when a company announced a stock split, on the premise that it would be a sure winner.

Ok, for the worst:

In the "archives" is the 3 smug, cool-dude office workers talking about how they need stochastics, level-2, blah-blah-blah..and how silly it would be to refer to just the bid/ask without checking the depth of the market (ha ha ha), while the non-trading office moron comes by and says hi. (Reminiscent of Flounder in "Animal House": "Hi guys....playing cards?")

Current worst: the HIDEOUS Indian woman on ice skates refusing to let go of the wall while being coaxed by her family, with the GUT-WRENCHING zither music in the background.

for the best:
In the archives, I have to vote for the "Money out the wazoo" ad.

The only currently airing commercial that makes me smile is for Gateway, with the kids getting into the parent's SUV thinking they are going to the water park.

BONUS/WORTHLESS trivia: Those who mentioned the Fidelity moron wanting the map of the market, and his wife who said "I cant believe he said that"....If you look closely at the ad with Dell's "Steven" in the store talking the other kid's mom into buying him a Dell....that kid's mom is the wife of the guy in the Fidelity "map of the market" ad.

OK, dude...turn the TV off. :D

The latest round of Ameritrade commercials are annoying as hell - especially the singing waiter - "I said J-J-J-J-Jam on it." If anyone has an Ameritrade account, please cancel it and let this company die!!

Tell me about it. The MOT cell guy on the bus . . .. give me a break already. I don't know which was worse, those incessant Datek ads with Nicoll playing with his streamer and the rubber stamp guys or these.

Yeah, but the hostess at the hotel who mistakes Mike for the chairman of MOT is hot. :D
