You mean trial mode? When you connect through IB API are you also using IB data feed? I thought its just to connect your brokerage account

No i bought MW. But it doesn´t matter, also the trial edition uses IB´s datafeed for charting. But if you buy MW you can trade. In MW there is the option to use IB for trading and using a second data source for charting, what i recommend because of IB´s endless backfill times.

Is MW scanner any good? Can you scan premarket gainers/losers and momemtum stocks in midday?

I think MW has not the abilities like Trade-Ideas or TC 2000. You would have to create a watchlist first with all stocks to run a scan. But you will notice the limitations because IB allows only to watch 100 stocks simultaneously in realtime, barchart some more but not all. This don´t work for me.
