This article was mildly interesting but would have been better if it was written objectively instead of as an attack on republicans. The democrats controlled both houses of congress and the presidency and did nothing to address these abuses.

Moreover, the IRS has only itself to blame for becoming a target. When you decide to enter the political wars, as it did with the Lois Lerner scandal and coverup, don't whine when people shoot back at you.

Ironically, the article ended up making a very good argument for the sort of tax reform advanced by republicans. If rates are low, the incentive to engage in convoluted tax avoidance diminishes, plus money is directed to productive uses instead of to tax shelters.

Because when their system worked, each person could save on :
- school fees : they needed not pay for quality education
- medical fees : they needed not impoverish themselves when ill, via accident or bad ageing
-transport fees : they needed not pay the full costs
- childcare fees : they needed not pay these costs
many many many costs that you have and they did not have , as their governement was managing
well at the time. I need check if the very expensive type of medical cures were free for them.
 
I think they also tend to value egalitarianism very highly. Put another way, they are very envious of those who have more. If you have a very homogeneous country with limited immigration. lots of natural resources and you can let other countries shoulder your defense burden, you can scrape by with socialism.

Of course, as Maggie Thatcher observed, at some point you run out of other people's money to spend.

They can't pay for their own school, they can't pay for their own medical bills
thay can't pay for their transport, they can't even afford to pay for care for their own children.
and if it keeps going like it is going, they will not be able to afford food or clothing or shelter.
