Giant kudos to Attica And Leap--I join in your indignation of Vick -a monstrous criminal deserving of no second chance. I made my feelings clearly known on PETA and actually Im surprised they let me post. I was incensed as I was pack leader in a partnership with a rescued pit bull terror I scooped up off the harsh streets of the Bronx. Peta let me post because they knew I was saying what so many of us wanted to say. I have no intention to hurt this half man-but I do wish he was not on this planet. limbo

Sorry to hear that - I hope you still see your daughter often. Hopefully Mark's kids will be lucky enough to grow up with a positive roll model/father figure in their life once they move on from this disaster.

Agreed! I'll admit I watch football, but mainly when the spread is tight as it's purely entertainment for me.

The guys who perform well are fun to watch but NOT hero status imo! These guys are strictly entertainers. Nothing like what is in the US Marine Corps and other branches. Now Pat Tillman is a hero in my eyes! Turned down millions to serve in the US Army vs. Play football. How he was kia'd is immaterial. He was a true hero that we are so desperately in need of in 2010.

First, how do you know she said that? No marriage license I have ever seen includes the words "for richer or poorer". Unless you were at the ceremony, you have no idea what they promised to each other. Some people get married and fully and openly intend to go wife-swapping, swinging, attending orgies and so on. Another couple's marriage is not what you personally think it should be, it's what the two people agree upon with each other, and the legal obligations they undertake.

Second, the guy made some promises too. Being a lying rip-off artist means he broke those promises. If you make a deal with someone, and they break their side of the deal, then you are no longer bound to your side of the deal. Basic contract law, basic morality. What is so hard to understand about that?

It's just like cases of infidelity. If a husband or wife cheats, and they had promised fidelity to each other, then the spouse has the right to leave, because their partner broke their marital promise. Ditto for things like this. It's not like he innocently lost money by a bad business decision. He lied, he stole, he defrauded - even charities, old people's life savings. I guess if he was a child molester you'd expect her to stay too? Get real.

You can apply that question to almost every human activity that is not necessary for survival e.g. poetry, literature, art, cinema etc. Also, what is so bad about entertainment value? At least pro sports keeps you fit, in good physical condition - this makes you live longer, look better, drain less of society's resources on medical treatment, fuck your wife better, set a better role model for kids, be able to physically protect yourself and your family. Compare to the typical obese, lazy-ass pussified wimp on main street.

The rest of your post is just simplistic tribalist group-labelling. You think sociopaths don't exist outside wall street? There are no more sociopaths there than anywhere else with similar amounts of money involved - government, hollywood, industry, arms dealing, international trade etc. It's an insult to the vast majority of honest people in finance to label them for the actions of a few crooks.

I actually think the (remote) possibility exists that Mark Madoff was able to ignore the evidence all around him, and actually delude himself for years into thinking his dad was legit. Sometimes when the truth is ugly enough to be devastating, people are able to fool themselves into believing all kinds of ridiculous notions. I'm not saying that's definitely what happened in this case... I'm merely open to the possibility that it may or may not have gone down that way.
 
Somebody mentioned here that the FBI was after Mark, with a possibility of a 20 years sentence. I guess that could have driven him to suicede, but I still like the mob version better. If it wasn't the Russians, I have to note that they are getting soft...

Then he was stupid and stupidity is sometimes almost as big of a sin as being a criminal. (W comes to my mind) Not to mention he was reaping the fruits of his naivite/stupidity.
