Bernie Madoff's Son Found Dead

Quote from Rearden Metal:

I don't know if 'stupidity' is even the right word for it. Look how many people still buy into the whole God Delusion in this day and age when facts are so easily checked and verified. Why is the government allowed to so openly shred the Bill of Rights and nobody does anything about it? No, it's a part of basic human nature in MOST people to accept, trust, and follow authority, no matter where their own best interests may lie. To question authority is nearly unthinkable to most people, and there was no greater authority figure in Mark's life than his father. The long running self-delusion probably wasn't even that difficult for Mark to pull off, now that I think about it. Human nature, I tells ya.

Absolutely. Read "Crowds and Power" by Cannetti.

Quote from radist:

Mark Madoff published a real estate newsletter anonymously?! If his final publication --- the day he was found hung with a dog leash around his neck -- was really rosy, it's additional validity of the conspiracy-murder theory.

He should contact Picard. If they can get 7bb out of Picower's widow, they should be able to get his subscription refunded.

Quote from Larson:

Jimi Hendrix also served in the military, before he wrote "Machine Gun". I consider him a hero in the music realm, but not for his military service. And in reality, that is "your" opinion and nothing more. Tell that to the children of some fomer NFL greats, who happen to also be great role models and heros to their families and others. Sorry, but your comment makes you appear a narrow-minded pompous asshole.

So entertainers are your heros vs. People willing to die for YOUR freedom? Hmmm... Welcome to ignore for resorting to name calling... Shithead! Lol!

I think the more telling thing is that how his wife left him. For me that pretty much shows that she found him guilty. An average woman wouldn't leave her husband just because his daddy was a dirty old man.
He probably denied it to her too, but a spouse can tell certain things.
Not to mention Mark got out his invested money from Bernie's fund back in 2000, so he didn't have any loss once Madoff gave himself up. It is usually nice to have a loss when one wants to play the "I was too naive" card....

By people willing to "die for your freedom" did you mean people willing to "engage in two illegal and unjustified wars and killing 100k's of innocent civilians"? Cause that sure sounds like the definition of heroic to me...

Those are" your" words not mine. This is a trading site, not a recruiting station. Your post deserved the name calling and you got called on it, punk.

What is a "legal" war??? Also, I served in a combat role in the sand box. Does that mean I'm a bad guy? Welcome as well to ignore.

I interviewed with them in the early 90's. Pete ran the PR side of the business and the pairs trading. Mark and Andy (were)are about my age..and they never left the 19th floor. It's very hard to imagine that they didn't know.

BTW: Jem their claim to frame was as a 3rd market dealer before 24hr trading became all the rage. Their push for technology advancement untimely became their downfall. Well that and the Ponzi part.

Quote from jem:

He did not have to know it was a ponzi scheme.

He could have thought that trading profits were being diverted into his accounts in a very suspect manner.

He could be sure there was a fraud... he might not of known the extent of the fraud.

If your friend ran a fund company and a brokerage, and your account was getting stuffed with ipo allocations (were talking the old days) and profitable trades... would you suspect something strange was going on?

By the way... to all you guys who were trading 10 years ago... was madof the provider of bullets?

paired deep in the money puts and long stock for one day use?

In the late nineties through 2001 some day trading firms were able to purchase bullets.

I always wondered how they could be purchased so cheaply. It just did not make sense that someone would give up control a thousand shares of stock and deep itm put for 10 bucks to daytraders who made money almost everyday.

But, I am pretty sure madoff was one the bullet dealers so now I get it... they were giving up fictional stock and options and no one was auditing their accounts properly.
