Quote from piezoe:

I would think it is more accurate to say: "That's been the central theme of [bad] government since the beginning of civilization.... "

When you study world economic history, you find that virtually ALL governments are either "bad" from the beginning or eventually degrade to bad... even when their beginnings were most noble. Such was the case with America. The Founding Fathers knew this and tried to provide a Constitution so that we might avoid historical pitfalls.

Worked at first, but eventually not. Guess we just can't help ourselves. :(

Quote from piezoe:

"... If there is going to be any hope for the long range future of the US economy we must break the pattern of endless war..."

Unlikely. It's often said, "the business of America is war".

The EASY road to re-election requires either (1) promise of more economic prosperity for voters, and/or (2) protection against "something"... even if the something has to be made up (you know, like WMDs in Iraq?)

War is part of both the protection and inflation machine. America will never abandon it.

The fed chairman who cut rates as commodity prices made all time highs.

How could anyone think about cutting rates with oil closing in on $100.00 It's suicide.
