Berkshire Hathaway Loads Up On Financial Stocks

Quote from day7793:
I can compare my records for one year. Twelve months trailing numbers.
Great. Twelve months worth of track record of writing naked puts during a bull market?

Buffet is going to be shaking.

You're lucky you started in 2006 and not in 2001 or 2002.

Quote from day7793:

Your analogy is very weak.

It does not compare to hard numbers I have and the hard numbers BRK.A had this year. Most currently BRK.A is a sideways moving behemoth and you ask what has it done for anyone lately?

BRK A 8/97 8/07

Price $41,300 $ 120,800

8/02 8/07

Price $75,600 $120,800

Sideways....????

Do the math. genus :D

Thats 60% for 5 years
just under 300% for 10 years

How about these two mutual funds? They are doing 107% per year returns!

CACFX 107% returns 12 months
DPCRX 103% returns 12 months

I think Warren Buffet should invest in them first.

You probably never heard about these either? How sweet my friend.

I do 100% per year just like them. Making 6-9 % every month with simple clean strategies.

Oh MAN

Did you know that if you had a time machine you could be the richest man in the world by investing in things when it bottomed and then selling at the absolute top.

WOW

WE SHOULD ALL DO THAT

Oh wait, you can't

Give me P&L that beats Buffet, I'm still waiting...

Sweet. CACFX has almost no record, and DPCRX didn't do much for several years until the China bubble came. There were plenty of funds that did 100%+ returns in 1998-2000. Just not many of them were around by 2002. Lets see how these funds do in 5 years. Buffet has quite a bit of history on his side.

CACFX and DPCRX both have records.

I can quote you 50 mutual funds that are doing 50% returns a year. Now Warren Buffet can do better than them?

Why would I write naked puts in a bear market? I would be writing naked calls and bear spreads. Same deal. The harder they fall better it would be.

I was comparing last 12 months, most recent year, you changed the yardstick.

But the point is, Buffet has consistent returns for many many years on end. Many of these mutual funds that have done phenomenally have bet the house on a speculative bubble, and just like many of those in 1999 -- they will end up losing most of their investors money once the bubble deflates (or worse, pops). I am sure there are funds that have a better historical performance than Buffet short term -- but you will be hard pressed to find many that have survived 30 years with consistent numbers.

It is unfair to compare Buffet to sprinters when he admits to being a marathoner.
