Belief In God Plummets Among Youth

Quote from Free Thinker:

Pew, which has been studying the trend for 25 years, finds that just 68 percent of millennials in 2012 agree with the statement “I never doubt the existence of God.” That’s down from 76 percent in 2009 and 83 percent in 2007.

Eighty-three percent is shockingly high. I've lived in DC, SF, LA and the proportion of true believers in these places seems more like 5-15%. Are there really that many hundreds of millions of people living in rural bumfuckville?

Quote from Free Thinker:

you will note that he offers no evidence for a god. his reason for believing is emotional. not very scientific is it.

That's an entirley different argument. You stated that there were no people of credible intelligence that were believers. I offered one. There are many others.
Now if you want to argue about evidence, that's a different subject. Evidence is everywhere, or nowhere, depending on your point of view. I have found it pointless to argue this fact as it is purely subjective in nature. Don't wanna' believe what's in front of your eye's, then don't believe. Makes no never mind to me. I'm just saying there is no absolute certainty on the subject of God.

Quote from CaptainObvious:

As I have stated here before, I have no use for, or affiliation with organized religion. Never have! My old dog tags say no preference. They wouldn't let you say atheist, which I was at the time. My belief in a creator, higher power if you will, is born out of personal experience, of which I do not offer as evidence of anything. I'm not here to sell anyone on anything, but the science is far from settled. Anyone with an open mind can clearly see that.

And so, this argument is ended, for there is none:)

Comparative religion is an amazing thing, especially if you try to do it outside of the books. The God of the bible is, well....let's just say he got some splanin to do.

Whether or not there is something beyond us, that we do not have complete access to, my experience also says there is something else beyond our skin and bone.

Quote from Free Thinker:

Doesn't it seem odd that the "evidence for the existence of god" is completely hidden from the greatest human minds who spend their professional lives exploring how the universe functions, yet it is perfectly clear to uneducated simpletons who have access to internet-linked terminals? i wonder if it bothers the religious that atheists have brilliant physicists, biologists, mathematicians arguing for the atheist side, while they have, really, no one of credible intelligence.

I never tire of reading this quote of yours. It's a good one.

And yes occupythis is not worth reading. Like I said before, his forum name must be a plea for something, anything, to occupy the space between his ears. But until he violates my personal criteria for ignoring, I'll keep reading his drivel and let you know if he ever says anything of value. I suspect it'll a long time if ever that that happens.

Quote from CaptainObvious:

The science is not settled! This area of study, simliar to GW, is filled with people who have clouded the "science" based on limited emperical evidence and personal bias.

Yes, there is definite correlation between an individual's ignorance and distrust of science with their belief in God and denial of GW.

Quote from bigarrow:

Jesus is on the way out for sure. But it won't be in our life time.
Knowledge is the enemy to myth and ancient beliefs. It's only a matter of time before it's not a major force in America.
The last presidential election was a good example, the candidates from both sides were both probably atheists or at best skeptics in a personal god Jesus.
Now this election we have Obama, probably an atheist or theist and Romney who believes in an alien man/god/Jesus, which is crazier than the original Jesus myth. But it does move us away as a country from the fundamentalist Jesus folks.

I for one would never want to see Jesus "out". Just the irrational trappings.

Quote from Free Thinker:

i have often said that this is the last generation where belief in an invisible sky daddy will be the majority opinion. education and the internet is enlightening the minds of the younger generations, freeing them from religious superstition:

The younger generation is abandoning God in droves.

A new survey by the Pew Research Center finds that belief in the existence of God has dropped 15 points in the last five years among Americans 30 and under.

Pew, which has been studying the trend for 25 years, finds that just 68 percent of millennials in 2012 agree with the statement “I never doubt the existence of God.” That’s down from 76 percent in 2009 and 83 percent in 2007.

Among other generations, belief in God is high and has seen few changes in recent decades. Between 81 and 89 percent of older generations say they never doubt the existence of God, although the older the generation, the more likely they are to believe in God.

The chart below reflects the Pew survey’s latest findings.

I guess that's what happens when the proposed messiah (pres bo) turns out to be nothing but an incompetent mudblood.

Not a bit surprising at all.
Anybody that thinks they posses one of the greatest human minds by definition probably has a wee little problem called hubris.
