Belief in God and Market Perspective

are you a trader?
do you believe in God?

may seem unrelated, but....

if you are a trader you look at outcomes in terms of probability and payoff right?

so,

if you have no belief, and there is God, you lose. if you have belief you win.

if you have belief or no belief, and there is no God, your outcomes are the same.

therefore, it makes sense to have belief mathematically, despite science trying to prove otherwise.

Quote from Nanook:

Please clarify, what is your definition of "God"?

For starters you can read your various insurances policies and take note of the exclusions they won't pay that are an act of God.

Wind, thunder, water, poorly installed mortar in joints, these sort of things.

By that definition, it would appear that the Old Boy has a penchant for calamity.

your question is not a new one - every heard of pascal's wager?

Quote from prof. charles:

...every heard of pascal's wager?
Yeah, but he got it wrong. His logic was faulty. Since many religions believe that only their god is the true god and everyone else will go to hell, which of the countless sects of the numerous religions are you to adhere to for the promised "salvation?"

i cannot speak for other religions, but in conservative/biblical christianity, asking God to bend the market on your behalf would hardly be the behavior of a "believer." It is called "Thou shalt not put the Lord thy God to the test"

It is like the North and South each praying "let us win, God." Why do they think God would be more inclined to the northern or the southern believers.

Or, "God, let me win this game against my opponent" who may also be a believer.

A biblical believer is more likely to ask for wisdom, strength, etc. to deal with their daily situations. Not to ash God to bend the world in their favor or vanquish the markets

That kind of logic is "Lord, let me buy a winning lottery ticket." Ain't gonna happen, unless that is what God wants, not what the Believer wants.

Only to the ignorant or to the unbeliever...
