I have to agree with you on this one. There are too many televangelists and other' questionable types to let this tax free thing go on. Sure, some deductions could apply, but to be tax free is a bit much.

He was soon followed out of customs by an old man with an atavistic mustache and a desperate blond comb-over, pushing an overburdened baggage cart. That man was George Alan Rekers, of North Miami â the callboy's client and, as it happens, <b>one of America's most prominent anti-gay activists</b>. Rekers, a Baptist minister who is a leading scholar for the Christian right, left the terminal with his gay escort, looking a bit discomfited when a picture of the two was snapped with a hot-pink digital camera.
Rekers, in an interesting move, is answering a reporter's phone calls. He says he hired the rentboy, who the Times dubbed "Lucien," to help with his luggage, because he just had surgery and cannot lift his bags; he did manage to push his luggage cart. But he didn't deny he met Lucien on Rentboy.com, where his profile describes his "smooth, sweet, tight ass" and "perfectly built 8 inch cock (uncut)" and notes he is "wild" and "up for anything." Lucien, however, did confirm that's how they met.
The embroiling of Rekers in this paid gay sex scandal cannot be overstated. As the Times notes, in addition to founding FOTF, he has served "advisory roles with Congress, the White House, and the Department of Health and Human Services and testifying as a state's witness in favor of Florida's gay adoption ban," "is a board member of the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality," and "lectures worldwide, from Europe to the Middle East, on teen sexuality."
The utter hypocrisy is astounding. And for all Rekers has to say about why gays shouldn't be allowed to adopt children, this man â who pays traveling prostitutes for sex â adopted a 16-year-old boy four years ago. He is now Lucien's age.

Dr. Rekers is also an officer of NARTH, the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, which promotes the view that homosexuality is a mental disorder that can be cured. And he's an ordained Southern Baptist minister with a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California, a Th.D. from the University of South Africa, and an MBA from Southern Wesleyan University.
As readers probably know (this story is viral now), Rev. Dr. Rekers was spotted (and photographed) in April in the Miami airport with a "rent boy" whom the reverend doctor had hired to shlep luggage on a trip to Europe. When confronted with evidence that he had rented a rent boy from the website Rentboy.com, Rev. Dr. Rekers initially stated that he had rented a rent boy without, it appears, having realized he had rented a rent boy. Without having realized that the website Rentboy.com specializes in, well, renting boys--in providing young male prostitutes to gay men looking for such companions.
Rev. Dr. Rekers initially claimed that he had found out his rent boy from Rentboy.com was a rent boy only part-way through their European trip, and that his rent boy was solely for the purpose of luggage transportation. When pressed on this point by Joe Jervis at Joe.My.God, Rev. Dr. Rekers then allowed as how he had rented his rent boy primarily to evangelize him.
This story is, of course, entertaining. And horrifying. And all too predictable. Joe.My.God's ongoing account of the story in the past two days is particularly amusing and informative. His latest posting notes that Rev. Dr. Rekers was paid $87,000 not too long back by the state of Florida to testify against adoption of children by same-sex couples.

Florida is not the only state that has paid Rekers big bucks to spread hateful lies about gay people and gay families. In 2004, Rev. Mike Huckabee, governor of Arkansas (and also an ordained Southern Baptist minister), brought Rev. Dr. Rekers to Arkansas to testify against gay adoption. Rekers billed the state $200,000, of which the citizens of the state ended up paying $60,000.
It's a hard job, but somebody has to do it, spreading lies and making gay families miserable. And those big chunks of taxpayer dollars--$87,000 and $60,000--can certainly buy a lot of European vacations. And rent boys luggage carriers potential converts. And as Wayne Besen of Truth Wins Out notes, "It is clear that Rekers has baggage and certainly needs help."

Rearden i appreciate you for 99% of what you say, as you provivide a valid/agreeable opinion on most all subjects..... that said, what is the point of this thread? I agree that there is a bunch of homophobes within the republican party, the pictures of all these homo's flexing (pardon the pun) is an image which was already bad to begin with, it seems to be proof enough to most people that we need a change.... I will readily admit that republiclowns need work, but at the same time i want freedom to do whatever the f%^& I want to do. And dems/Obama dont offer that. What is your stance? I am definately on the side of the right as it stands right now....

Hiya... you're cool in my book, and my point with this thread was definitely NOT a left vs. right thing. Notice how I didn't hesitate to go after Spitzer (D) as well. I was just pointing out the tendency for 'moral crusader' types to hide a closet full of skeletons.
This Rekers guy got paid (at least) $287,000 in gov't funds to testify in favor of new anti-gay laws, then he goes and spends the money on a male prostitute and his 'perfectly built 8 inch cock (uncut)', and <i>then</i> the douchebag comes up with the absurd excuse that twink rentboy was only hired to 'help him with his heavy luggage'. (This reminds me of Ted Haggard claiming to hire <i>his</i> male prostitute for 'non-sexual massages' only, and how he bought meth for personal use 'but decided to throw it away instead of ingesting it'- AS IF anyone would actually believe such obvious bullshit.)
I found the whole story to be rather amusing, interesting, and representative of moral crusaders in general. I see that others here aren't quite so amused however, and that's your right...
