BayernLB and WestLB in merger talks

Two of Germany’s biggest public sector banks are discussing a merger that would mark a breakthrough in long-standing attempts to consolidate the troubled Landesbanken sector.

BayernLB and WestLB said on Monday that they would assess this year whether to join forces to create Germany’s third-biggest bank by assets.

Yes, consolidation in the Landesbanken sector is what we have all been waiting for.

I for one have been unable to sleep these last few months due to this uncertainty in the Landesbanken sector.
